The story behind the store
Linda, the owner of Pet Central, has always been passionate about animal welfare. In the 1980s, Linda started working for her family’s pet store located in Lower Hutt. In 2005, she decided to branch out on her own with an online pet store called Cyberpets. Today, we fondly call it Pet Central.
Currently, they have three brick-&-mortar stores in Christchurch and a new store in Timaru launched in February 2018. In just a few months after the store opened, the Timaru Pet Central team won the Business Enterprise Award in South Canterbury for Business Excellence in Retail.
In late 2019, they’ve reached a milestone with its flagship Mega Pet Central store opening its doors in central Christchurch. Today, the Megastore is the ultimate Pet Store destination in New Zealand, offering just about everything you can think of for your furkids under one roof.

Everyone at Pet Central shares the same passion as Linda and are animal lovers. For their staff, animal welfare is paramount, aiming to keep firm to their ideals.
Because of this, you won’t find puppies, kittens, dogs, cats, fishbowls, small tanks, or birdcages in any of their stores. Their kittens, for instance, come from Christchurch Cat Rescue and from Street Cats Timaru. Their stores serve as these kittens’ “foster fur parent” until their forever homes are found.
